Canon EOS 650D

Canon has announced a new DSLR in its entry-level lineup with a number of exciting features. The new Canon EOS 650D/Rebel T4i is the first Canon EOS model ever to feature a dual AF system and to offer touchscreen capability. LEGOtron Mark I | Cary Norton

LEGO’s are among our favorite design items, and while most of us are happy creating spaceships and cars with LEGO bricks, Alabama-based photographer Cary Norton decided create a 127mm f4.7 camera made entirely from everyone’s favorite colorful bricks!  The LEGOtron, Mark I is roughly 7″ x 6.5″ x 7″ and has a focus range of about 18 inches to 3 feet.

Norton explains the technical details of the camera on his website:

“The main parts are a Main box, internal box, film holder/ground glass slot, lens board, lens. The lens is a 127mm ƒ4.7, and the lens board is two Plates deep and fits perfectly in the slot I built for it (though, I cut it down to one plate in the center to actually mount the lens). Focus is achieved by sliding the internal box forward and backward. …The ground glass is just plexi, sanded with various fine grits. It’s held in place by a film holder that previously had light leaks, but now has the aluminum center cut out. The fit is tight and I ran a line of liquid nails too, just in case.”

Canon EOS 1D-X

Undoubtedly, the Canon EOS 1D-X is one of the most impressive DSLR cameras to date, Canon made news moments ago with its release. The  EOS 1D-X is the latest in the company’s professional range of DSLRs replaces both the sports-orientated 1D series and the high-resolution, studio-focused 1DS range of cameras. As is usual for upgrades in this class of camera, the changes are incremental and subtle but aim to raise the bar of what is possible.

Additionally, Canon created the 1D-X with a new sensor - an 18MP full-frame CMOS chip capable of shooting at 12 frames per second. An ISO rating goes from 100 to 51200 and can be expanded to an impressive 204,800. The 1D X also incorporates a new 61-point Auto Focus system as well as software configuration tools akin to those on the 7D model. Internally, the EOS 1D-X features three DIGIC processors, including Dual DIGIC 5+ image processors that maintain the ability to deliver 17 times more processing speed than the previous DIGIC 4. D dedicated DIGIC 4 processor remains integrated for metering and AF control.

The design of the body has undergone some changes too; the 1D-X closely resembles previous 1D cameras, but a closer look reveals a series of changes. For instance the addition of a second joystick on the rear of the camera, ensures all functions remain available when using the portrait orientation grip. The camera also features twin buttons next to the lens, in either orientation. These are customizable, allowing you to access features such as the electronic level gauge or jump to registered AF point.  Beyond this, the camera gains a direct live view button, a ‘Q’ button to jump to the ‘Quick’ function menu, and has had its flash exposure compensation button re-dedicated as a customizable function button.

Dual Card Slots incorporated are to the approval of many professional photographers providing a means to carry only one memory card format and achieve instant image back ups while providing a significant boost in storage capacity. Photographers are also granted the ability to join their 1D-X to a LAN network via a built-in Gigabit Ethernet Jack. The Canon EOS 1D-X is set to make its debut in March 2012, and is expected to arrive with a price tag of USD $6,800.

The Brand-versations Series

Graphic designer Stefan Asafti has created a very interesting project titled ‘The Greatest Brandverstions’.  “This is a project about brands - the great brands of the modern world - which have build quite a history for themselves as the years went by.”

“There have always existed disputes among the competing parties, divergent opinions, while the fans of each brand were convinced that theirs was the best product. Last, but not least, the rivals have even conducted ad campaigns against the competing brands. This project mostly approaches the visual “conversations” between the company logos and the ways that they influence each other, hence the name of the project, Brandversations. It is a parallel between the modern and the old, some of the slogans dating back to the 40s and 50s.”
