Edsel Ford’s 1934 Model 40 Special Speedster

Apparently, as it turns out Edsel Ford actually had great taste in cars himself; for example, take Edsel Ford’s 1934 Model 40 Special Speedster. The custom made model, which served Edsel Ford as a personal roadster had changed many hands after his death in 1943 until its last owner, a Texas car collector, bought the car in 2008. After the collector’s sudden death in 2010, the Speedster returned to Edsel’s home, now operated as an historic site called the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House. Inspired by European rides of the late ’20s and early ’30s and drawn by Ford’s chief designer E.T. “Bob” Gregorie, the Speedster was based on a 1934 Ford frame but underwent major surgery to appear longer and lower, and has recently been restored to its original specifications, making it as authentic as any 1940 model could reasonably be.
